About
Hello everyone!
This blog is all about poker. I’ll discuss anything and everything regarding my favorite of all card games. I’ll even take requests and talk about topics you want to learn about!
A little about myself…
The first time I ever played poker I was only nine years old. A couple friends and I learned the game and would play for poker chips. I really enjoyed the strategy, especially bluffing, and the diversity of the game. Not long after came the first time I played for money. I was at a boy scout camp in Texas and found my way into the tent of some of the older boys, who were playing for nickles and dimes. No, there’s no merit badge for gambling, and I doubt the scout masters would have approved
. The game was called “Mexican Sweat,” which is a version of seven card stud, no peek, with deuces as the kill card. Great game! I actually did pretty well, winning several big pots, and left with more money than I arrived with. From then on, I was hooked.
Later in life, when I became old enough to play poker in casinos, I started to really study the game. I bought every book under the sun and studied them intensely. I began playing Texas Hold’em and Seven Card Stud in Atlantic City, NJ. Since I am good at math, and since I had so much experience, the books really made sense, and the strategies I was learning actually paid off at the tables.
As my life in poker progressed, I even took up playing poker full time for almost three years (primarily live, but some on the internet as well). I did fairly well, earning a fairly good, but not great living at the game. However, the life of a professional poker player is not as glamorous as it might seem. There is considerable stress involved with playing for a living because you have to win to eat and pay the bills. It’s a hard life, one that suits very few people. Still, I did OK, so that’s enough for me to at least say “I did it!”
Moving on from there, I started working in the card rooms of Las Vegas. I found that the thousands of hours I spent in the card rooms of Atlantic City and California gave me exactly the experience I needed to thrive as a card room dealer and supervisor. Poker is a career field I really love and can excel at.
My personal specialty is helping new players and tourists feel comfortable in a game, choose their game wisely, and have a great time. I teach strategy to certain pupils in my free time, and write about poker too.
This blog will be all about learning what you need to know to play and enjoy poker on any level, and to do well at it too! I’ll discuss basic, intermediate, and advanced strategic concepts, as well as etiquette, rules, decisions, card room issues, and what you need to know to play poker in a casino card room. Since poker tournaments have become so popular, I’ll discuss those as well, including winning strategies from the basics to advanced. I’ll also tell a few entertaining stories along the way.
Thanks for reading!
